Job Description

The Branding Director is responsible for the planning and execution of print and web promotional materials. They will create a marketing strategy for ARTSIDEOUT and report to the General Manager of scheduled plans to ensure open communication of what will be presented to the public. This role requires collaboration with the Communications Director and the Graphic Designer in devising and implementing a strategic marketing plan for ARTSIDEOUT. Strong communications between different departments are essential in the success of the Marketing Team.



  • Prepare a critical timeline in the first months of the work contract, outlining tasks, events, and deadlines pertaining to the Branding Director role;
  • Collaborate and report to the General Manager and Artistic Director to ensure the theme, vision, mission, and values of the festival are well represented;
  • Communicate regularly with the General Manager and Artistic Director to ensure an accurate program design for the day of ARTSIDEOUT;
  • Work closely with and oversee tasks of the Graphic Designer in creating and maintaining a consistent ARTSIDEOUT visual brand identity;
  • Communicate and work with the Communications Director to unify marketing strategies and share resources;
  • Supervise the direction of all print materials and the overall website and social media concept;
  • Responsible for the organization and creation of the written component of the ARTSIDEOUT program, collaborating with the Graphic Designer and the various Artistic departments for visual needs as well as editing;
  • Devising and implementing a critical marketing strategy for the promotion and engagement of students and community members in the festival; this entails consistent consultation with the General Manager, and collaborations with the Outreach and Volunteer teams, as well as the Social Media Coordinator and the Web Developer;
  • Prepare a critical timeline in the first months of the work contract, outlining tasks, events, and deadlines pertaining to the Branding Director role;
  • Develop and maintain the marketing budget, reporting expenses to the Financial Officer;
  • Attend Executive Committee meetings and provide timely reports/updates to the Executive Committee regarding overall marketing initiatives;
  • Deliver a detailed final report after the event, outlining quantitative and qualitative data pertaining to the overall marketing strategy



  • Strong time-management, communication, and organizational skills are highly important
  • Strong competency and extensive experience with Adobe Creative Suite is required; experience with photography and videography is favoured
  • Must be familiar with social media applications (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram) and web development platforms (i.e. Wordpress)
  • Able to work with critical deadlines, must be able to manage a number of different projects at the same time
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as work with others in a team-based setting
  • Demonstrated strong interest/eagerness to work with people from various walks of life, and learn about Scarborough’s rich and diverse arts and culture scene
  • Experience in event planning and/or organization is an asset, but not required


Working Conditions

  • Work contract: February 2018 to end of October 2018
  • February to August will consist of monthly team meetings and socials; September will consist of weekly meetings up to the day of ARTSIDEOUT; Additional meetings with other departments and General Manager
  • Expected to attend executive workshops including, but not limited to: Financial Literacy, Intro to Google Accounts, Anti-Oppression Workshops
  • Expected to attend at least 3 Outreach events throughout the year
  • Work-from-home with hours between 4-5 hours/week
  • Availability during summer months is highly important
  • Flexible availability during September to the day of the festival is mandatory
